Shaxi, historical market town
Shaxi is an historical old town. In 2001, the World Memorial Fund for Architecture (WMF), an international fund for the protection of world heritage sites announced that Shaxi has been added to the list of internationally significant sites, together with the Great Wall, the Ohel Rachel Synagogue of Shanghai and the Christian Pagoda, and the Monastery of Shaanxi Province.
Shibao Shan (Mountains and temples)
25km southwest of Jianchuan County Town in Dali. Mount Baoding, Mount Shisan, Mount Shizhong, these are three parts can make up of whole Shibao Mountain; it is the total areas of 20 km2. The highlights of landscape in Shibao Mountain. Haiyun Monastery, Baoxiang Temple and Shizhong Temple. The Haiyun Monstery is the first Buddhism Temple in Shibao Mountain. During the 3 days from 27 to 29 every lunar month, people sing love songs in the Baoshan temple. There is keeping with tradition. There is huge bell-shaped sandstone on the Shizhong Temple. So the Baoshan Mountain is one of the famous landscapes in Yunnan province.
Baishui Tai, natural terraces
Baishui Tai is located in Shangri-La area, it is far from Shangri-La town about 101km, the altitude is about 2380m. It is the birthplace of the Naxi ethnic minority’s Dongba Religion, it is very important for Naxi people. Every Lunar Feb. 8, many Naxi people from around come to celebrate the “Sanduo Festival Days” in Baishui Tai, they do picnicking, dancing, singing and praying for the harvest, good lucky in the coming year!
Springs here, high in calcium carbonate run down the mountain slope forming terraces covering an area of 3km. It was saying: Baishuitai was the fields left by the fairies for Naxi people to learn how to farm, so now looks there are many fields together!
Lugu Lake and the Mosuo Minority
Lugu Lake is located among the lofty and precipitous mountains where Ninglang autonomous county in Lijiang borders Yanyuan county in Si chuan province, Lugu Lake is 72km far from Ninglang. As the second largest deep-water lake in Yunnan, Lugu Lake covers an area of 52km with an average depth of 45meters, the deepest point being 93meters, Lugu Lake has a visibility depth 12 meters. Lugu Lake has the Mosuo people, which is a branch of the Naxi nationality. Among this minority, the visiting marriage style inherited from the matriarchical society is still popular, Men and women do not marry each other in the usual way, Instead men would go to visit women and stay with them only for nights, This kind of marriage style called “walking marriage”.
Lashihai Lake
Lashi Lake is the center of the Lashihai Watersheld Nature Reserve, total is about 265.6 Square meters. Lashi lekeis the heaven for the migratory birds, there are about 70 species, 30,000 birds come here to through the winter from end of Oct. to early April every year, Lashi lake is best place for the people to birdwatching. Lashi lake represents how harmony the humanity and nature get together! There is abundant nature and culture resource.
Wenhai Lake
Wenhai lies northwest of Lijiang city, nestled in a sub-alpine valley, against the towering backdrop of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain peak,lies Wenhai Lake and neighboring Wenhai village. The village of Wenhai surround the Wenhai lake, Wenhai is located 3000m above sea level, was established in this valley over 300 years ago. Wenhai is a undeveloped area, most close to Jade Draon snow mountain and peaceful area! You can hear nothing besides the cow, horse, pig, dog…Wenhai is one of most important grazing grassland for during the Tea Horse Road. In 2002, Wenhai had a total population of 798 people, from 217 households. The “Upper” and “Lower” villages near the Wenhai lake are inhabited by the Naxi, while Yi people live in villages to the north, further up the mountain. The local Yi and Naxi people still keep their traditional custom and life, normally their speak their own language, wear the Yi and Naxi traditional clothing.
