The name "Lijiang" means beautiful river, was referred to Yangtze River (also called JingSha River). Lijiang has played a very important role in trade route which is known as “Tea-horse trade route”, A number of goods such as tea and salt are continuously transported from Simao across Dali, Lijiang, to Tibet, and then exchanged for furs and local products. Lijiang is a decisive joint between mainland China and Tibet, many cultures and religions inter-infiltrated and absorbed, you can see a great variety of different national minorities. In world war Ⅱ, Lijiang was a staging post for “The Hump” airline, Lijiang has been made its own contribution to world peace attributes to it’s strategic geographical position. Lijiang locates in Northwest of Yunnan province covers an area of 527 square kilometers, average elevation is 2400 meters. The highest peak is Jade Dragon Snow Mt (5596 m), with a population of 1.04 million, the majority is Naxi people, the rest of the population are Bai, Pumi, Tibetan, Lisu, Yi, Miao, etc. Lijiang wins international reputation from its great diversity of animals, plants and cultures, is known as a “a bank of animals and plants”, especially for some rare animals like “Yunnan golden monkey”. The Old Town of Lijiang and Dongba Pictograph are recognized as World Heritages for its unique significances to the whole world, and Naxi Music is known as “a fossil of Chinese ancient music”.
